About Union Church

Union Church was started by Scottish Missionaries, North Americans and others
eighty one years ago. Our church plant was built in the 1950s and has served us well. During its lifetime, our church has attracted members and friends from all over the world.

Most of our members are people from North America who live in Peru permanently or expatriates who spend just a few years or months. Among those attending Union Church are business people, students, diplomats, housewives, and missionaries, whose faith backgrounds are Protestant and Catholic, liturgical and non-liturgical. In our church, each person is greeted and accepted with the welcome mat out. What unites us is our common bond in Christ, our love for each other, and our use of English in worship, fellowship, and study.

Membership. The church also offers Associate Membership for those who are in Lima on short-term assignments as well as membership for those in Lima permanently. This way, new members do not need to give up their home church affiliation. Come join us!

Union Church is completely self-supporting. We have no benefit from any specific church demonination. Every year, however, the Lord has blessed us enough to designate 10% of our total income to benevolence and mission projects. If you would like to support UCL, it is possible to make USA tax-deductible donations by writing checks to PICC, our U.S. based non-profit corporation.

We have a Board of Directors that is elected each year and represents men and women from many different backgrounds.
The 2010-2011 Board of Directors:  President – John Sanders, Vice-President – Roger King, Treasurer – Stephen Morse, Secretary – Joel Montgomery, Buildings and Grounds - Gert Van der Horst, Membership & Outreach – Bill Giambona, Fellowship - Marty Clark, Missions – Beverly Cisneros, Education - David Massiah, Worship - Thomas Triller.

Our church plant is a home for community service organizations. The permanent office of the American and Canadian Association of Peru is located in our building, as well as the library and club room of the American Women’s Literary Club. The International Christian School of Lima meets in our upper level. They are affiliated with the Network of International Christian Schools and offer a Christian education to children from preschool to high school. Others who use our facilities are Community Bible Study both in English and Spanish and self-help groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and Overeaters Anonymous. Good stewardship of our buildings is one of our primary concerns. The church board recognizes that ex-pat life is a demanding life style. At the same time, we want to remain faithful and true to God during the time of our overseas commitment. The church board challenges the members and friends of The Union Church of Lima to make the commitment of "worship and one more thing." That is, weekly attendance at worship and a weekly commitment to one service ministry, or one opportunity for spiritual growth.
